Why should you learn how to relax fast? Because stress is more than just unpleasant. It's also dangerous. Many diseases are now known to be caused by or made worse by stress, but you can do something about it. Just try these relaxation techniques today and use them whenever you feel that tension coming on.
1. Take a hot shower- The hot water relaxes your muscles and the break from more stressful activities helps too. Helping us escape from the many duties of life we are able to ground ourselves and take a few breaths to recollect thoughts.
2. Play relaxing music- Experiment to see which music relaxes you the most effectively. Then keep your favorite relaxation music in a special playlist and utilize it wherever you need it most.
3. Go somewhere! - This really helps if the things stressing you out are in the room or associated with it. Why not get out for a little while? Take a few minutes to relax. You can always go for a walk, designate a quite spot, or even take a small trip somewhere that puts you at ease. What if we cannot leave physically? Well, we always have the gift of imagination on our side. Where would you go if you could leave? Close your eyes and imagine yourself being in the place you'd like to be.
4. Have a cup of chamomile tea- Chamomile seems to have a calming effect on the nerves, and hot drinks in general can help you relax. I also prefer lime and honey in my hot mixed drink concoction. What tea do you prefer? Not only is it delicious, but it can give us the necessary time to take a break from life when it becomes overwhelming. Find a cozy spot, take your favorite hot drink, and relax in your own unique way.
5. Watch your mind- If you can spot the stressors lurking just below the surface (hunger, worry, a phone call you need to make), you can resolve them and feel more relaxed. Remember to PLEASE check yourself. Are you Physically hurt? Lacking any Sleep? Did you Eat? Mind Altering drugs/medication? Are we Sick? Did we get any Exercise?
6. Have a laugh- Of course, you know from experience that this helps you relax, right? Find that friend that can make you laugh. Listen to that standup on your phone, watch a funny video, or simply try to find something funny in front of you. Laughter is known to be some of the best medicine people need.
7. Breath deep through your nose and out your mouth. Take a couple of these breaths. Try to hold in for four and out for four. Just close your eyes and pay attention only to your breathing while doing this. Five slow deep breaths are like a mini meditation.
8. Give someone a hug- As long as it's from somebody you don't mind hugging, this really can be very relaxing. And when you do it for 20 seconds the feel-good hormone oxytocin is released which creates a stronger bond and connection between the huggers. Oxytocin has been shown to boost the immune system and reduce stress.
9. Interrupt your routine- Stop to talk to that guy sleeping on the bench, eat lunch on the roof, do something out of the ordinary. Anything that breaks you out of your habitual patterns can relieve stress.
Over time you can change to be more relaxed. Of course, if the thought of the work involved in this just stresses you more, you might want to take it slow. In the meantime, the relaxation techniques above really aren't difficult, so why not try a few, and learn how to relax fast.
